Thaw

It's about 50 Degrees out there today, and tonight my sweetheart and I will move back to our own little cabin (we've been staying up in the main house through the coldest nights), hopefully for the duration.  I started preparing our first seed flats this afternoon, about a month later than I typically would, and it felt great to have my hands in soil again.  I look forward to the first little sprouts with such eagerness.

I'd post pictures of the thaw, but honestly (and I think y'all know this for yourselves) it looks kind of desolate out there.  So instead, I'll share the last lovely walk in this past week's snow.

And Then There Was More

It snowed!

Not the usual Tennessee snow with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation, then maybe a little "wintery mix", then complete meltdown by the following morning.  No, no! Not that at all.  Around SIX inches fell before we went to bed Monday night.

Our Favorite Game

The day before had been rain.  Nothing but rain all the day long.  Through the night I could hear the rain begin to freeze and the slishing sound of freezing rain filled my dreams.  We woke up to a crystalline world with every branch and leaf coated with a thin layer of clear ice.  Then set in the snow.  In no time at all the grey glassine world was transformed to white.  We spent the morning watching brilliant flakes blow off the roof in eddys and swirls.  Then the call came, "No work tomorrow". Ah, Freedom!  Let's go play!
