The day before had been rain. Nothing but rain all the day long. Through the night I could hear the rain begin to freeze and the slishing sound of freezing rain filled my dreams. We woke up to a crystalline world with every branch and leaf coated with a thin layer of clear ice. Then set in the snow. In no time at all the grey glassine world was transformed to white. We spent the morning watching brilliant flakes blow off the roof in eddys and swirls. Then the call came, "No work tomorrow". Ah, Freedom! Let's go play!

A Picture's Worth a Thousand Words?
Last night convinced me otherwise.
We walked down to the creek after sunset last night. It was a challenging walk for me this time. There wasn't much moonlight, and the road is in really bad condition due to the poor management of it by the roads department. Also I was a bit under the weather with a bit of a cold, and was feeling a mite disoriented. I regained my stability when we got to the flat and were soon by the creekside. As I thought about how much I wished I could get a picture of the scene to share with you all, a new thought came to my mind.

Yak Attack!
When the Middle Tennessee monsoons ended, we started chomping at the bit for the first warm day to come. Yesterday, when it was only in the forties, we did laundry so that we could have the warmest day of the week (today, 50s) to get out in the Kayaks. The general consensus in the morning was to try, for the first time, our own creek, Salt Lick Creek. This was uncharted territory, with many potential challenges. There may be trees across creating strainers or requiring portages, or, if the water wasn't high enough we might have needed to get in and out of the boats fifty times to get past shallow riffles. As it turned out, there were few major challenges, only one portage, and the water was high enough to be really fun! Unfortunately, the funnest water was where the photographer (Micah) needed to focus on paddling, but here is a lovely view of a perfectly lovely day!
